I take this old thread to answer.
a) Ferchenbauer write in his attest that the Stamp was cancelled on arrival, since it was accidentialy uncancelled in the Kingdom of Sardinia (or Italy)
b) For me the Ferchenbauer certificate read that he knows something about this item, which he did not write - possible he had seen the complete letter ...
c) I agree to Antonello: If a cancelled stamp has more value than an unused stamp, the cancel must be proofable genuine.
Ferchenbauer writes in his certificate, that the Peschiera cancel does not belong to the Sardinian stamp. That should tell everybody with a little knowledge that this stamp did not have the value of a genuine cancelled stamp.
The Matl certificate for "our" stamp does not mention this - it seams that Matl was not aware of the fact that Peschiera was not Italy before 1866 ...
d) I think the Chiavarello certificate in our description is a "translation" error.
e) I hope to have enough arguments to withdraw the lot from our auction - but the Ferchenbauer certificate will help.
Sergio, thanks for pointing me on this tread
